Mrvan Announces Law Enforcement Community Project Funding Requests for Fiscal Year 2026

Washington, DC- Today, Rep. Frank J. Mrvan announced his law enforcement Community Project Funding requests for Indiana's First Congressional District for Fiscal Year 2026.

These requests have been included in the House-version of the Fiscal Year 2026 Commerce, Justice, and Science Appropriation Act, which has been approved by the House Appropriations Committee. The legislation must now be approved by both the full House and Senate prior to being signed into law.

Congressman Mrvan stated, "As a member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, and Science, I am grateful for the opportunity to advocate for and include these federal funding requests for Northwest Indiana's brave members of law enforcement. We must continue to do all we can to ensure that our police officers, firefighters, and emergency response teams have the support and resources they need to perform their duties to the best of their abilities and keep our communities safe. I look forward to continuing to work with our local stakeholders and my House and Senate colleagues in a bipartisan manner to finalize these vital funding requests as soon as possible."

Throughout his tenure as a Member of Congress, including these requests for Fiscal Year 2026, Rep. Mrvan has advanced over $8 million in Community Project Funding requests for law enforcement agencies in Indiana's First Congressional District.

Congressman Mrvan's law enforcement investments included in the House-version of the Fiscal Year 2026 Commerce, Justice, and Science Appropriations Act are specified below.

  • $85,000 - Chesterton Police Department - funding will assist with the acquisition of Virtual Reality training systems.
  • $1,000,000 - Crown Point Police Department - funding will assist with the Radio Replacement Project to enhance operations and support swift, coordinated responses.
  • $306,000 - Dyer Police Department - funding will assist with the Radio Communications Enhancement Project to promote reliable and consistent communications between officers without frequency interruptions.
  • $520,000 - East Chicago Police Department - funding will assist with the acquisition of new portable radios.
  • $400,000 - Griffith Police Department - funding will assist with the Police Radio Upgrade Project to improve interoperability among officers as well as other first responders during emergencies.
  • $488,000 - Hobart Police Department - funding will be utilized to equip patrol officers and detectives with body worn cameras.
  • $400,000 - La Porte Police Department - funding will assist with the Equipment and Technology Upgrades Project to enhance officers' abilities to protect and serve the public and improve efficiencies.
  • $244,000 - Lowell Police Department - funding will assist with upgrading portable radios to improve interoperability.
  • $670,000 - Schererville Police Department - funding will assist with the Portable Radio Replacement Project to improve interoperability among officers as well as other first responders during emergencies.
  • $398,000 - Valparaiso Police Department - funding will assist with the Portable Radio Upgrades Project to promote swift, coordinated responses.
  • $70,000 - Winfield Police Department - funding will assist with the acquisition of body worn cameras.
