Capitol Police Seeks Public Comment on Assessment

Dover, Del. - The Delaware Capitol Police will host a team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA®) on March 30, 2026. The site visit will evaluate all aspects of its policies and procedures, management, operations, and support services, Chief William R. Thompson announced today.

The review is part of a voluntary process to achieve CALEA® accreditation, a nationally recognized benchmark of professional excellence in public safety that requires agencies to comply with 193 rigorous and comprehensive standards.

"Accreditation is more than a certificate on the wall," said Chief Thompson. "It reflects our commitment to the highest professional standards, integrity, accountability, and continuous improvement. It assures our community of the Delaware Capitol Police's dedication to provide transparent, high-quality service."

As part of the assessment, agency personnel and community members are invited to offer comments at the CALEA Accreditation Public Comment Portal or capitolpd.delaware.gov. Individuals who cannot access the online portal may submit comments by mail to:
