Newark Beth Israel Medical Center's Advanced Lung Disease Program Earns Pulmonary Hypertension Association Accreditation as an Adult Regional Clinical Program

Newark Beth Israel is one of only three in New Jersey to receive this prestigious designation.

NEWARK, NJ (September 2, 2026) - Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, an RWJBarnabas Health facility, has received accreditation from the Pulmonary Hypertension Association (PHA) as an Adult Regional Clinical Program, recognized for providing specialized, high-quality care to patients living with pulmonary hypertension. This rare progressive disease impacts both the lungs and the heart.

This recognition is a significant achievement for Newark Beth Israel's Advanced Lung Disease and Transplant Program and an important milestone for patients in New Jersey. There are only 100 PHA-accredited Pulmonary Hypertension Care Centers nationwide, including three in New Jersey.

Newark Beth Israel is home to the state's only lung transplant program and one of the nation's busiest cardiac programs. As a PHA-accredited Regional Clinical Program, Newark Beth Israel can now offer patients greater access to advanced clinical research and resources across the national Pulmonary Hypertension Care Center network of accredited Centers of Comprehensive Care.

Pulmonary Hypertension is caused by high blood pressure within the arteries of the lungs. Over time, the right side of the heart must work harder to pump blood through the lungs, which can lead to serious complications including permanent lung damage and heart failure.
