Minnesota State Moorhead will host the 5th Annual Moorhead Juneteenth Celebration on Friday, June 19, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the university's campus mall. The Juneteenth celebration and cookout is a community gathering honoring Black history, culture and resilience as well as strengthening community partnerships.
This free family-friendly event includes a vendor lineup of a diverse mix of local businesses, service providers, and community organizations, including retail, real estate, insurance, jewelry, wellness services, and home improvement. Nonprofit organizations and advocacy groups are also strongly represented, with a shared focus on youth empowerment, family support, healthcare access, and civic engagement.
The event will feature a wide variety of food vendors offering barbecue, tacos, wings, and specialty snacks that showcase local flavor and culture. Attendees can enjoy a full day of activities for all ages, including many youth jump houses, yard games, and continuous programming on the main stage, which will remain active throughout the entire event. A special highlight will be the Honor Celebration Walk to the Felix Battles statue, along with a yoga session centered on balance and equilibrium to promote wellness and mindfulness.
The Destiny Holiday Community Champion Award will also be announced, an annual recognition established by the Moorhead Human Rights Commission to honor a Moorhead resident who exemplifies compassion, resilience, and community dedication. Ms. Destiny Holiday organized the first Moorhead Juneteenth in 2021.
This community-wide event is a collaboration between Minnesota State Moorhead, Concordia College, the City of Moorhead, Essentia Health, Fred's Dissonance, Sanford Health, and SOWETO NFH.
