October Employee Spotlight – Brandon Holtmeyer

Brandon Holtmeyer started with the City of Columbia Information Technology Department in 2023 as a Cyber Security Analyst before becoming a Cyber Security Analyst II in 2024. In his role, he also functions as the City's Cyber Security Team lead.

In this capacity, Holtmeyer and his team handle all of the City's cybersecurity-related issues. This could range from working with regulations to maintain compliance, user training and phishing or responding to cybersecurity-related alerts. His work also includes mitigating or preventing attacks against the City network to troubleshooting computer problems that could be cybersecurity-related.

During his time at the City, Brandon says he's had nothing but positive experiences. This includes interacting with community members, his colleagues and the executive staff who support his team when it comes to tools or cybersecurity-related initiatives.

Prior to working at the City, Brandon had a lengthy career in IT, including help desk and engineer positions. He says his current position is by far the most challenging that he's ever held. However, he enjoys that quality of working at the City.

"I love challenging myself and growing as a person," said Brandon. "I am glad that I work for a place that supports my drive to grow as a professional."

In his "free time," you can likely find Brandon at some sort of sporting event or practice. He could be coaching his son on the baseball or football field, soccer pitch or basketball court. If he's not with his son, he can be found at an archery range, a choir recital or in a gymnastics gym supporting his daughter. Otherwise, he will likely be fishing at a local pond.
