Kaptur Votes To Pass Final Appropriations Funding Legislation, For National Health, Defense, Transportation And Housing Priorities And Secures Nearly $11 Million For 7 NW Ohio[...]

Washington, DC - On Thursday, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) voted to pass H.R.7148, the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2026, the final funding legislation funding for FY2026 which will now head to the Senate for final approval. The legislation passed the House by a bipartisan vote of 341-88, and now moves to the Senate for final consideration. This legislative package includes funding for the Departments of Transportation, Department of Housing and Urban Development, Department of Labor, Department of Health and Human Services, and the Department of Defense.

As part of this package, Congresswoman Kaptur secured $10,861,099 for 7 Community Funded Projects across Northwest Ohio for transportation agencies, transportation infrastructure, local law enforcement, fire, and emergency services, and a public education partnership with local colleges and universities. The legislative package also included Congresswoman Kaptur's Care for Military Kids Act, bipartisan legislation to ensure children of active duty servicemembers who are required to relocate for a deployment maintain their medical coverage for complex health needs when moving across state lines.

"This week, Republicans and Democrats working together voted to deliver much needed, critical investment for transportation infrastructure, housing, law enforcement, fire and emergency services, public health, national defense, and to support working people in Northwest Ohio, and across America. Municipalities across our region will receive well over $10 Million in community projects alone to help the people who call our region home. This progress will be felt in communities big and small, from the tiny Village of Gibsonburg, to the bustling City of Toledo" said Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09). "I am thrilled to see that this legislation includes a key priority of mine, my bipartisan Care for Military Kids Act. This will ensure children in our military families will always have access to the care they need, no matter where their parent's service takes them. The House has done our job in bipartisan fashion, and I now urge the Senate to pass this legislation with haste, so it can be signed into law, to get this vital funding to our communities."

Congresswoman Kaptur's community-led project funding

  • $3,061,099 for Toledo Public School District for Scott Park Campus Revitalization. In June 2023, Toledo Public Schools acquired the Scott Park Campus, launching an ambitious project to transform it into a hub for education, residential living, and recreation. The campus will host three specialized magnet schools-Education, Business, and Construction/ Architectural Designs-catering to students in grades 7-12 from across Northwest Ohio.
  • $2,000,000 for Toledo Area Metroparks for Toledo Riverwalk Construction and Glass City Enrichment Center Building Upgrades. Toledo has undertaken an unprecedented public-private initiative to bring high-quality public greenspace, trails, and programs to downtown Toledo's riverfront neighbors.
  • $1,000,000 for Wood County Port Authority to extend the Chessie Circle Trail by constructing 2.37-miles of 16-foot-wide multi-use trail, a connecting path into the Knight Nature Preserve, trailheads, wayfinding and interpretive signage, and trail amenities in northern Wood County.
  • $250,000 for the Village of Gibsonburg for a multi-modal pedestrian and bicycle replacement project located in the Village's downtown business district.
  • $ 2,450,000 for the Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority (TARTA) to upgrade its maintenance facilities in preparation for the Zero Emission Bus (ZEB) systems transition.
  • 1,250,000 for the Toledo Police Department for the construction of a new SAFE-T City Headquarters. Since its inception in 1978, the Safe-T-City program, orchestrated by the Toledo Police Department, has played a crucial role in educating generations of Toledo-area kindergarteners about life-saving safety measures, from pedestrian awareness in traffic to fire safety and appropriate responses to strangers in public spaces.
  • $850,000 for the City of Toledo for a new Fire Station 16 on Dorr Street. This would replace an existing station built in 1979 with a modern facility to enhance emergency response capabilities for nearly 10,000 residents.

Care for Military Kids Act

  • Congresswoman Kaptur Co-Leads this bipartisan legislation alongside Congresswoman Jen Kiggans (VA-02). The Care for Military Kids Act ensures that children of active duty servicemembers who are required to relocate for a deployment maintain their Medicaid coverage when moving across state lines. Specifically, this legislation would amend the Social Security Act to ensure that any dependent of an active duty servicemember currently receiving long-term care services through a state administered Medicaid plan will remain eligible should their family move due to relocation.
