Buckeye police raise awareness of new e-bike ordinance

BUCKEYE, AZ (October 7, 2026): Buckeye police have launched a campaign to educate the community on a new city ordinance regulating electric bikes and scooters. Buckeye Ride Right promotes the safe operation of electric transportation devices through community outreach, education in local schools and digital resources.

Last night, city council approved Buckeye Municipal Code 12-2-10 which provides a framework for police enforcement of traffic violations involving electric bikes and scooters. Ordinance highlights include:

  • Age limits for all three classes of electric bikes and electric scooters
  • Helmets required for operators under age 18
  • Progressive penalties for repeated violations including citations, fines and device impound.
  • Penalties for parents and guardians of minors under 16
