Georgia DOT to Host PIOH and an In-Person Public Meeting on State Route (SR) 81 from County Road (CR) 371/Bethany Road to CR 651/Keys Ferry Road: Widening

Henry County - The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) will host an in-person, public information open house (PIOH) on September 17, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Henry County Administration Building, 140 Henry Parkway, McDonough, Ga., 30253 The PIOH will be informal, and the public is invited to attend anytime during these hours. There will be no formal presentation. During the event, the project's latest concept design, environmental assessment, and other project resources will be available for review and comment. Subject matter experts will also be on hand to answer any questions.

In-Person Public Information Open House (PIOH)

The Georgia Department of Transportation will host an in-person PIOH where the community will have the opportunity to view the materials displayed below, engage with project team members, and submit comments. Details of the in-person event are as follows:

The purpose of the project is to In order to improve mobility, reduce traffic congestion, and improve safety for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians. Henry County and GDOT are proposing to widen a section of SR 81 to an 11-foot four-lane urban section with a 20-foot raised median. Furthermore, additional auxiliary lanes would be installed, and a 19-foot border area with curb and gutter and a 10-foot shared-use path would be implemented on one side of the roadway with a 5-foot sidewalk on the other side. The speed limit would be reduced to 45 mph. Traffic would be maintained on-site using staged construction methods.

Georgia DOT is seeking PIOH comments from now until October 1, 2026.
There are several ways the public can submit comments:

  1. Leave a written comment or speak to a court reporter at the in-person PIOH on October 29, 2026
