Mayor Nichols Announces Community Listening Session as Police Chief Selection Process Begins

As the chief of police selection process begins, Mayor Nichols is inviting the community to help voice the qualities and priorities they want to see in the department's next leader.

The public will have an opportunity to share that feedback during a Community Listening Session on Tuesday, Aug. 4, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Edison Preparatory School, 2906 E. 41st St., Tulsa, OK, 74105.

The listening session is open to all Tulsans and is designed to gather community feedback that will help inform the interview process. Attendees will have the opportunity to share the qualities, values and leadership characteristics they believe are most important in Tulsa's next chief of police prior to any candidates being interviewed.

In addition to the community listening session, Mayor Nichols will convene a series of stakeholder roundtable discussions to gather additional perspectives from community leaders and partners. Feedback from both the community listening session and stakeholder roundtables will help identify the qualities and priorities the City should be listening for as candidates are interviewed.

The position for chief of police has been posted internally and will close on Aug. 5. Throughout the application and interview process, the City will follow its standard civil service hiring process and best practices used by peer cities to ensure applicants have the opportunity to participate thoughtfully and professionally while maintaining the integrity of the selection process.
