WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Susan Collins, Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced that she secured Congressionally Directed Spending for two critical infrastructure and flood mitigation projects in Maine in the Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 Homeland Security Appropriations bill. The legislation, which was officially approved by the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives, has been signed into law by the President.
"Upgrades to Maine's infrastructure are essential for the economic and environmental health of communities across the state," said Senator Collins. "This funding will help limit future flood risks and damages, while improving public safety. As the Chair of the Appropriations Committee, I worked hard to secure this important funding."
Funding secured by Senator Collins for Maine in the FY26 Homeland Security Appropriations bill is as follows:
Hendricks Head Infrastructure Improvements
Recipient: Town of Southport
Project Location: Southport, ME
Amount Requested: $1,165,000
Project Purpose: To support critical infrastructure improvements in the Town of Southport.
York County Flood Protection
Recipient: York County Emergency Management Agency
Project Location: York County, ME
Amount Requested: $1,762,000
Project Purpose: To support flood protection and mitigation in York County.
In 2021, Congress reinstituted Congressionally Directed Spending. Following this decision, Senator Collins has secured nearly $1.5 billion for hundreds of Maine projects for FY 2022, FY 2023, FY 2024, and FY 2026. As the Chair of the Appropriations Committee, Senator Collins is committed to championing targeted investments that will benefit Maine communities.
