U.S. Army Awards $2.2 Billion for Nuclear Microreactor Sites in Georgia, Kentucky, New York, North Carolina, Texas

On August 26, 2026, the U.S. Army announced the selection of 5 vendors to own, construct, and operate nuclear microreactor sites in Georgia, Kentucky, New York, North Carolina, and Texas. Kentucky and New York co-chair the NASEO Advanced Nuclear First Mover Initiative, an effort to advance next-generation nuclear technologies, and Texas serves as an observer member.
The Army will award $2.2 billion total to Radiant Industries, Inc., BWXT Advanced Technologies, LLC, Westinghouse Government Services, Antares Nuclear, Inc., and General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems, with the intention to provide reliable power to national defense posts and invest in the domestic production of new nuclear technology.
The projects were selected through the Department of Army's Janus Program, an advanced nuclear reactor program designed to generate secure energy for national defense installations. This program aims to fulfill Executive Order 14299, "Deploying Advanced Nuclear Reactor Technologies for National Security."
