On 25 October 2025, H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended the ASEAN Joint Foreign and Economic Ministers' Meeting (AMM - AEM) on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In attendance were foreign ministers from the ASEAN Member States and Timor-Leste.
The meeting exchanged views on challenges from current evolving geopolitics and geoeconomic situation and the 2025 ASEAN Geoeconomics Report (AGR 2025), established by the ASEAN Geoeconomics Task Force (AGTF) to assess geoeconomics influence and propose ASEAN Geoeconomics Strategy.
The Foreign Minister commended the report of the ASEAN Geoeconomics Task Force and echoed its recommendations for ASEAN to focus on multilateralism and economic integration, especially the ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement (ATIGA) upgrade, free trade agreements and the conclusion of Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA). He also underscored the importance of encouraging ASEAN to consider new economy, including innovation economy, green economy, as well as participation of the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the regional and global economy. The Foreign Minister also noted that the Task Force's recommendations should be shared with the business sector to gather their views since they are main drivers of growth.
