Burbank, CA (April 6, 2026) - The City of Burbank, in partnership with SoCal Adaptive Sports and USA Boccia, is proud to host the Western Regional Level 2 Boccia Tournament on April 11-12, 2026, at Burbank High School. This event is a key activation within the City's broader Paralympic initiative, aligning with regional efforts leading into the 2028 Paralympic Games.
Boccia is a Paralympic sport designed for athletes with physical and developmental disabilities. It is a precision ball sport that emphasizes strategy, skill, and inclusion, and is one of the few sports with no Olympic counterpart, making it uniquely central to the Paralympic movement.
This regional tournament will bring together athletes of all experience levels from across the western United States, offering both competitive play and an accessible entry point for new participants. The event is open to individuals of all abilities, reinforcing Burbank's commitment to inclusive recreation and equitable access to sport.
"The City of Burbank is committed to creating recreational spaces where everyone of every ability is invited to be active, connected, and inspired. Supporting this tournament is a meaningful step in expanding access to adaptive sports and strengthening the sense of community that defines our city," said Mayor Tamala Takahashi.
"This tournament represents more than competition-it's about visibility, opportunity, and building a stronger adaptive sports community," said Chris Allen Executive Director of SoCal Adaptive Sports. "Through partnerships with leading organizations, we are creating pathways for athletes to engage, compete, and thrive."
The City of Burbank continues to expand its leadership in adaptive sports through collaborations with organizations such as SoCal Adaptive Sports and alongside local partners including Burbank Unified School District. These partnerships are central to advancing inclusive programming and elevating adaptive sports opportunities throughout the region.
The Western Regional Boccia Tournament will serve as both a competitive platform and a community celebration, highlighting the impact of adaptive sports while supporting athlete development pathways within the Paralympic pipeline.
