The University of Toledo and The Blade will present a panel discussion on advancements in care and technology that are shaping healthier communities on Thursday, Dec. 11.

UToledo Health's Dr. Charles Callahan will join four additional panelists in discussing cutting-edge approaches to preventing and treating health conditions in "Perspectives: Building a Healthier Future for Everyone" beginning at 6 p.m. in Doermann Theatre.

Panelists are:

• Charles Callahan, executive vice president for health affairs and CEO of UToledo Health;

• S. Zaheer Hasan, a local neurologist who serves on the Advisory Board of the Governor's Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives;

• Alison Mondul, who studies the impact of environmental exposures on the risk of cancer and other chronic diseases as an associate professor of epidemiology at the University of Michigan;

• Amy Rohling McGee, president of the Health Policy Institute of Ohio, a statewide organization focused on independent non-partisan data and health policy analysis; and

• Krystal Shephard, an adult-geriatric nurse practitioner who specializes in innovative treatments as owner of Shephard's Geriatric Care in Toledo.

"Perspectives: Building a Healthier Future for Everyone" continues the thought leadership series Perspectives launched by UToledo and The Blade in 2024. It will be moderated by Kim Bates, executive editor of The Blade.

"I'm looking forward to this discussion. Healthy Toledo is one of the three launch pads that I introduced during my presidential inauguration in October, reflecting UToledo's unique ability to positively impact community health through the patient-focused care we provide and our educational programs that prepare future healthcare providers," said Dr. James Holloway, president of UToledo. "Accessible and advanced healthcare is integral to healthy communities. We are proud to bring attention to this important topic through our latest Perspectives event in partnership with The Blade."

Attendees are asked to register for the free, public event online through The Blade. Event parking is free in Area 1N.
