Anda Secures Investment from Proparco to Expand Urban Mobility in Angola

DFP portfolio company Anda, an Angolan urban mobility startup, has secured an investment from Proparco, supporting the company's continued growth and its ambition to build a more accessible, structured and sustainable mobility ecosystem in Angola.

Anda is addressing a fundamental challenge in Angola's urban transportation sector: helping transport operators move from predominantly informal models towards greater access to vehicle ownership, financing, training, insurance and digital mobility services.

At the centre of its model is a drive-to-own vehicle financing proposition, enabling drivers to work towards vehicle ownership while generating income through mobility services.

The latest investment will support the expansion of this model while strengthening Anda's technology infrastructure, growing its driver-partner network and accelerating the company's transition towards electric mobility.

Expanding Access to Vehicle Ownership

Vehicle ownership can be a significant barrier for drivers seeking to build sustainable livelihoods in Africa's urban mobility markets.

Anda's financing model is designed to address this constraint by providing drivers with a pathway towards ownership while they generate income through their vehicles.

The model also creates an opportunity to bring additional services around the driver and vehicle, including training, insurance and digital tools that can improve the efficiency and resilience of transport operations.

Today, Anda operates approximately 2,000 vehicles in Luanda, with drivers earning on average around three times their previous informal-sector income.

These outcomes demonstrate the potential for structured mobility platforms to generate benefits beyond transportation itself, creating pathways towards greater financial inclusion, formal employment and asset ownership.

From Mobility Platform to Electric Fleet

The new investment will also support the next stage of Anda's development in electric mobility.

The company plans to accelerate the rollout of its electric fleet, battery-swapping capabilities and charging infrastructure, creating the foundations for a more efficient and lower-emission urban transportation system.

For high-utilisation vehicles, electrification can offer significant potential benefits through lower operating and maintenance costs. However, successful adoption depends on much more than simply making electric vehicles available.

Drivers and fleet operators also require access to appropriate financing, reliable energy infrastructure, vehicle maintenance, battery management and digital tools.

Anda's integrated approach brings these elements together within an existing mobility platform and driver network.

Building Angola's Urban Mobility Ecosystem

Luanda provides a significant market for this model.

As Angola's largest urban centre continues to grow, demand for reliable and accessible transportation is increasing. At the same time, the evolution of the mobility sector creates opportunities to formalise services, improve driver livelihoods and introduce new technologies into the transport system.

Anda's next phase will focus on deepening its presence in Luanda while preparing for expansion into additional cities across Angola.

This expansion could provide a platform for bringing structured vehicle financing and digital mobility services to new driver communities while extending the company's electric mobility infrastructure beyond the capital.

DFP Perspective

At Double Feather Partners, we see Anda as an example of how mobility businesses can address several structural challenges simultaneously.

The opportunity is not simply to provide vehicles or operate a ride-hailing platform. It is to build an ecosystem around the driver, combining asset ownership, financing, technology, training, insurance and mobility services.

This approach can create stronger economic outcomes for drivers while providing the foundation for the gradual electrification and formalisation of urban transportation.

The involvement of Proparco is also an important signal of the growing interest in businesses that combine commercial scalability with meaningful development and climate impact.

For Africa's mobility sector, models such as Anda demonstrate how the transition towards cleaner transportation can be linked with broader goals around financial inclusion, employment and entrepreneurship.

As the company expands its electric fleet and prepares to enter additional Angolan cities, we believe Anda is well positioned to play an important role in the continued development of Angola's urban mobility ecosystem.

Congratulations to Sergio Tati, Joerg Nuehrmann and the entire Anda team on this important milestone.
