Congressman Ivey Provides Statement on Government Shutdown

WASHINGTON, DC- Congressman Glenn Ivey (MD-04) released the following statement on the shutdown of the federal goverment.

Let's be clear: Republicans own this shutdown. They control the White House, the House, and the Senate. I will not be bullied by President Trump or the Office of Management and Budget. I will continue to fight because the stakes for our communities and our country are simply too high.

From Day One of this administration, federal workers have been under attack-even as they continue to serve the American people with dedication and professionalism. They have faced repeated threats of reductions in force and even proposals to dismantle entire agencies and departments. Russ Vought's recent threats are nothing new.

The precedent of unchecked reductions in force is dangerous. Allowing federal employees to be dismissed based on the political whims of any administration would undermine the essential functions of government and erode public trust in our institutions.

I will stand firm. We must protect health care, support our federal workforce, and demand accountability. The American people deserve a functioning government that works for them.
