On 4-5 March, the Chancellors of the Government and all ministries visited Brussels to discuss preparations for Lithuania's Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2027 and EU policy priorities with representatives of the EU institutions.
"We are a strong team, ready for the marathon of the Presidency and we must be resilient to all possible challenges. Great expectations are placed on Lithuania's Presidency of the Council of the EU, negotiations on the multiannual EU budget are expected, therefore the involvement of each expert is particularly important", said Ambassador Nerijus Aleksiejūnas, Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the EU.
During the visit, the delegation discussed with the representatives of the EU institutions the preparatory works, the best practices of the presidency, the essential aspects of the implementation of the presidency programme, and the planned presidency events in Lithuania, as well as the social and cultural agenda. The Chancellors also focused on their ministries' teams, discussing their operational priorities and active preparation for the presidency.
In 2025, the Seimas approved the priority guidelines for Lithuania's Presidency of the Council of the EU, which cover issues of security, defence and support for Ukraine, EU enlargement, competitiveness, internal security, and social affairs.
