When a legal question comes up, it usually comes up somewhere else
Most legal questions don't start in a legal app. They start wherever someone is already working through a problem - drafting a lease, replying to an employer, reading through a contract - and only later does it become clear that a lawyer is actually needed. Up to that point, the person has usually been asking an AI assistant for help thinking it through.
That's a real gap for anyone using Claude. Claude can help someone chat through their situation, but the moment they need an actual attorney - to review the details, answer a question in writing, or get on the phone - the conversation has to stop. The person has to leave, find a legal service, explain their situation again from scratch, and pick up somewhere new.
What the Rocket Lawyer connector for Claude does
Rocket Lawyer has built an MCP connector for Claude that removes that break in the process. Once a user installs the connector - creating a new Rocket Lawyer account or connecting an existing one - they can ask a legal question or arrange a live attorney consultation without leaving the conversation they're already having.
The connector is built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard that lets AI assistants like Claude securely call out to external services mid-conversation. In practical terms for a Rocket Lawyer customer, that means Claude can recognize when a legal topic has come up, surface the relevant Rocket Lawyer options, and carry the details of the conversation forward - so the person doesn't have to start over.
How to ask a Rocket Lawyer attorney a question from Claude
Once a user creates a Rocket Lawyer account, or signs in to an existing one, and approves the connection, Claude can help with two core things:
Users can also attach a supporting document - a lease, a contract, a letter - through a secure upload link, and check the status of an existing question or consultation at any time. Claude checks what services the user is entitled to under their plan, and if something isn't included, it offers a link to add it.
What this looks like in practice
A tenant is using Claude to work through a letter from their landlord about a deduction from their security deposit they think is unfair. Claude helps them understand what the letter is claiming and what their options generally are. At some point the question stops being one Claude should answer - whether the deduction is actually lawful in their state, and what to do about it.
With the connector installed, that's where the handoff happens. Claude offers to send the question to a Rocket Lawyer attorney, confirms any additional information with the user, and the user attaches the letter. An attorney replies in writing, typically the next business day. If the reply raises more questions, the user can book a consultation from the same conversation.
The person doesn't have to explain their legal matter again before they can get help.
Why we built it this way
While building the Rocket Lawyer MCP connector for Claude, our team focused on one principle: when someone's matter needs an attorney, get them connected quickly, in the conversation they're already having. Claude handles the parts that are naturally conversational, and Rocket Lawyer connects them with an attorney for legal guidance.
We also thought about what a user needs when they're working outside our platform. The connector confirms the question text and any additional details with the user before they're submitted to an attorney, so the customer can correct anything while they're still in the conversation. Claude checks what's included in their membership, and offers a way to add a service that isn't, linking them to Rocket Lawyer to add it, so they're never left at a dead end. And any question or consultation can be checked from the same conversation, so the user does not have to go hunting for it later.
The aim was simple: keep the user in the conversation for as much of the process as possible.
AI and attorneys, working together
This connector doesn't change who provides the legal help. Claude is the conversational interface; it does not give legal advice or act as an attorney. Every written question and every consultation is handled by a Rocket Lawyer attorney, the same as if the request had come in directly through Rocket Lawyer.
What changes is how a customer gets there. Instead of AI conversation and legal help being two separate journeys, the connector treats them as one continuous path.
Adding the Rocket Lawyer connector for Claude
Adding it takes a minute: find Rocket Lawyer in Claude's connector directory, add it, then sign in to your Rocket Lawyer account or create one and approve the connection. Setup instructions, requirements, and technical details are on the Rocket Lawyer MCP page.
To mark the launch, new users who connect the Rocket Lawyer connector get seven days of free Rocket Lawyer access with no credit card required, including a live attorney consultation or a written question to an attorney.
What comes next
Rocket Lawyer's mission is to make legal protection simple, affordable, and accessible - by combining AI guidance with real access to attorneys. The MCP connector extends that combination beyond our own site and apps, into the environments where people are increasingly starting their legal thinking in the first place.
Attorney services are the starting point. As more of Rocket Lawyer's platform becomes reachable this way, the goal stays the same: meet people where they're already working, and get them to real legal help without friction.
