ATLANTA - Work crews for the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) will install lane closures on Interstate 285 (I-285) this weekend for a project along seven miles of I-285 from Collier Drive in Fulton County to Paces Ferry Road in Cobb County. These lane closures are related to the ongoing concrete slab reconstruction and rehabilitation project currently ongoing along the westside of the I-285 corridor. The work includes improvements to the roadway shoulder lanes, the concrete median, signage, guardrail and ATMS/ITS systems.
Weather and onsite conditions permitting, these are the lane and ramp closures scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. on Friday, November 13 until 5 a.m. on Monday, November 16:
-
I-285 southbound:
-
Two right lanes closed between SR 280/South Cobb Drive (exit 15) and SR 8/ DL Hollowell Parkway (exit 12)
-
The southbound entrance ramp to SR 8/ D L Hollowell Parkway will be closed to traffic. Roadside signs will direct approaching drivers to the detour route.
-
I-285 northbound:
-
Two right lanes closed between South Atlanta Road (exit 16) and SR 280/South Cobb Drive (exit 15)
-
The northbound entrance ramp to South Atlanta Road (exit 16) will be closed to traffic. Roadside signs will direct approaching drivers to the detour route.
NOTE: November 13-16 Full Closure of all lanes on I-285 northbound and southbound between S. Atlanta Road and SR 280/South Cobb Drive, weather permitting. All approaching traffic will be detoured around the closure to use I-75, I-75/I-85 Connector and I-20 to their destinations.
This $155 million project is one of two projects along the I-285 westside corridor designed to repair and/or replace concrete slabs. It is scheduled for completion in 2029. Additional information and project history can be found on the I-285 reconstruction project website.
ADVISORY: Drivers should exercise caution in and around work zones, wear seatbelts, follow signage guidance, reduce speed, move over one lane, when possible, to ensure the safety of crews, and avoid distractions behind the wheel. During construction, lane closures are needed to ensure there is ample room for crews to safely work and for motorists' safety during the concrete slab rehabilitation activities, as large equipment will be on-site.
