Rep. John McGuire celebrates passage of 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Following the passage of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, Representative John McGuire issued the below statement.

"The American Dream of homeownership has been out of reach for far too long," said Rep. John McGuire (VA-05). "The 21^st Century ROAD to Housing Act eliminates barriers, eases financial burdens, and creates better pathways for veterans' housing assistance. This bill proves once again that House Republicans are committed to making life more affordable for Americans. I was proud to vote for its passage and look forward to continuing to fight for all Americans to achieve the American Dream."

Background:

• The House amendment to H.R. 6644 would address the nation's ongoing housing shortage by promoting reforms intended to expand housing supply, reduce regulatory barriers, modernize federal housing programs, and improve affordability.
• The bill includes provisions to streamline zoning and permitting processes, encourage innovative and manufactured housing construction, modernize rural and community development programs, and expand access to affordable financing options.
• It also includes measures to strengthen protections for veterans, homeowners, renters, and families receiving federal housing assistance, while improving coordination among federal housing agencies and increasing oversight and transparency.
• Finally, it includes several provisions to strengthen the role of community banks in housing, including providing institutions with diverse sources of low-cost and stable deposit funding they can use to facilitate greater mortgage lending and home construction financing.
