The Bellflower City Council adopted the 2025-27 Strategic Plan, which outlines five goals focused on effective governance and a clear, unified direction for the City. One of those goals is to continue investing in a high-performing and efficient team. In alignment with that effort, the City is proud to spotlight a hometown team member: Michelle Mellana, Executive Assistant III in the Public Safety Department.
Michelle has proudly called Bellflower home since the age of five, growing up and attending school in the very community she now serves. She began her career with the City 25 years ago as an intern in the Community Development Department. Since then, her commitment to public service has guided her through a range of roles across the organization.
Over the course of her tenure, Michelle has supported multiple departments, including the City Manager's Office, Public Works and Code Enforcement, before joining the Public Safety Department in 2015. Today, she serves as Executive Assistant III, where her experience and institutional knowledge support daily operations.
In her current role, Michelle supports the Director of Public Safety, assists customers at the Sheriff's Substation and helps prepare materials for City Council and Public Safety Commission meetings. Her work helps keep the department running efficiently and supports the level of service residents rely on.
Michelle earned her Associate of Arts degree from Cerritos College and is currently working toward a degree in business administration, continuing to build on her professional growth.
Outside of City Hall, Michelle is an enthusiastic soccer mom, cheering her son on at local games and streaming her daughter's college soccer matches all the way from Ohio. In the summer, you'll likely find her at the river with family and friends. She also enjoys exploring new restaurants with her husband, her high school sweetheart.
When asked why she does this work in Bellflower, Michelle shares: "Bellflower has been my home since I was five years old, so being able to work for the City where I grew up means a great deal to me. I take pride in serving the same community that helped shape who I am, and it's important to me to give back to the place I have called home for so many years."
