SCDOR charges Horry County woman with tax evasion

SCDOR agents arrested an Horry County woman Monday evening and charged her with two counts of tax evasion.

Jacqueline Brooke Duvall, 50, of Myrtle Beach, was charged with two counts of tax evasion in Georgetown County, where her employer was located.

According to arrest warrants, Duvall incorrectly filed a form with her employer claiming to be exempt from South Carolina Individual Income Tax for tax years 2023 and 2024. However, the SCDOR's investigation revealed that Duvall's taxable income over that period was at least $227,860. As a result, she evaded the payment of at least $13,083 in South Carolina Income Taxes, the warrants allege.

Earlier Monday, Duvall was arrested in Horry County and charged with two counts of failure to pay taxes, file a return or keep records. As a result of all charges, Duvall owes at least $19,566 in unpaid South Carolina Income Tax.

If convicted, Duvall faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison and/or a fine of $10,000 per count of tax evasion. She is being held in the Georgetown County Detention Center pending a bond hearing.
