CANTON, OH - U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) announced the U.S. Department of Justice's Office on Violence Against Women awarded $500,000 to the Domestic Violence Project, Inc. to support transitional housing initiatives for survivors of domestic violence in Ohio's 13th Congressional District.
"I'm proud to secure funding that helps equip survivors of domestic violence with the resources and knowledge they need to thrive and find safety and security. This initiative will help liberate victims from dangerous living conditions they may otherwise find inescapable. I will continue working to ensure we support those whose voices are too often silenced, and protect victims across Ohio's 13th Congressional District," said Rep. Sykes.
"We are honored to be selected for the OVW Fiscal Year 2025 Transitional Housing Assistance Grants for Victims of Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking Program. This award will allow us to continue providing safe, stable housing as part of the comprehensive wraparound services we offer survivors," said Domestic Violence Project, Inc. "Transitional housing plays a vital role in ensuring survivors are not only safe but also equipped with the tools and support systems necessary to heal and thrive. This grant affirms the importance of wraparound services and underscores the urgent need to address housing insecurity among survivors. We are deeply grateful for this federal investment, which will allow us to continue offering these critical services in our community for the next three years."
This grant supports efforts that surpass the scope of typical emergency shelter services by helping victims find more permanent housing, gain meaningful employment, and better integrate into their communities.
