The new website went online today as part of the 15th anniversary celebrations of the Institute for the Comprehensive Analysis of the Economy at the Johannes Kepler University Linz.

KOMPASS.blog is an offering provided by the joint research team at the Institute for the Comprehensive Analysis of the Economy and the Socio-Ecological Transformation Lab, both located at the JKU. The website now offers comprehensible, evidence-based, and solution-oriented breakdowns of key social developments, ranging from environmental sustainability and social inequality to the role of science and academia in public debate.

It was designed to make current research more accessible to journalists, media professionals, teachers, activists, and other individuals who regularly share and spread information.

To better communicate their findings, the team developed public briefs, which

  • discuss current research,
  • present key findings and their implications for society,
  • make policy recommendations and provide public guidance, and
  • make available graphics, quotes, and further resources.

These public briefs can be used or quoted freely, for example in newspaper articles, background briefings, or public lectures. Anyone interested in receiving regular updates can sign up for the quarterly KOMPASS newsletter.

The platform was created in response to increased demand for science outreach and communication about the socially relevant research being conducted at the department. The JKU researchers hope they have set a good example for facilitating the exchange between science and academia and society.
