The City of St. Louis and partners, including MODOT, are actively responding to a sinkhole that developed near Interstate I-44/70 and North Broadway in downtown St. Louis. City officials want to assure residents and visitors that departments and resources are being dispatched to address immediate and long-term concerns. There is no threat to public safety beyond the affected area.
Upon notification of the incident, the City activated all appropriate departments and response partners, including MODOT and utility companies, to assess conditions, secure the site, and coordinate response efforts. Personnel from the Street Department, Water Division, Department of Public Safety, Fire Department, St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, City Emergency Management Agency, among others, have worked together to evaluate the situation and are in the process of implementing necessary safety measures and repair processes.
"We understand the concern the incident causes, but we want to reassure the community that this is being closely monitored and managed by experienced professionals," said Shawn Dace, Director of Public Safety for the City of St. Louis.
Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area and use alternative routes.
