WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senators John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) applauded the U.S. Senate for unanimously passing their bipartisan resolution Thursday afternoon designating May 10th through May 16th, 2026, as National Hospital Week.
"Doctors, nurses, and hospital staff in Wyoming and across the country provide critical care and comfort to patients when it matters most. National Hospital Week gives us the opportunity to recognize the valuable service of these incredible frontline workers," said Senator Barrasso. "In Wyoming, we rely on these professionals every day for their dedication to the health and well-being of our communities."
"National Hospital Week is an opportunity to cheer our nation's tireless hospital workers who deliver heroic care during some of the most challenging moments in the lives of patients and their families," said Senator Whitehouse. "I will continue to advocate in the Senate on behalf of doctors, nurses, and staff in Rhode Island hospitals and push for a health care system that delivers affordable, high-quality care."
The legislation is co-sponsored by U.S. Senators Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.), Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), Angus King (I-Maine), and Roger Wicker (R-Miss.).
The resolution recognizes the dedication of healthcare professionals and the important role hospitals play in caring for patients and supporting communities across the country. From rural and teaching hospitals to VA medical centers and specialty facilities, hospital teams work every day to provide high-quality care close to home.
Last year, Senate Republicans secured the largest-ever investment to support hospitals and strengthen rural healthcare through the $50 billion Rural Health Transformation Program in the Working Families Tax Cuts Act. Investments like these help ensure hospitals can continue providing the services communities rely on every day. Hospitals nationwide employ nearly 5.8 million people, including nurses, physicians, technicians, support staff, and many other essential workers. Together, they provide care for more than 35.6 million patients each year and help ensure hospitals remain ready to serve communities around the clock.
"Healthcare is truly a team effort, and Hospital Week is a reminder of how fortunate we are to have such a committed and talented group of individuals across all areas of Star Valley Health. Each individual's professionalism, kindness, and willingness to go above and beyond are what make our organization special," said Daniel Ordyna, Chief Executive Officer at Star Valley Health.
"The AHA appreciates Senators Barrasso and Whitehouse for leading this bipartisan Senate resolution supporting National Hospital Week," said Lisa Kidder Hrobsky, Senior Vice President of Federal Relations, Advocacy, and Political Affairs at the American Hospital Association. "The hospital field is proud to be recognized for the critical role they serve in providing essential, around-the-clock patient care in communities across America."
