UI, CNG, SCG Focus on Strengthening Infrastructure at Annual Resiliency Summit

At second annual event, utilities, municipal leaders, and partners collaborate on strategies to enhance emergency preparedness and long-term resilience

ORANGE, Conn. - June 11, 2026 - Today, United Illuminating (UI), Connecticut Natural Gas (CNG), and Southern Connecticut Gas (SCG), subsidiaries of Avangrid, Inc., announced that the companies hosted its second annual Resiliency Summit on June 10, convening municipal leaders, nonprofit organizations, private-sector partners, and utility representatives to advance strategies for building stronger, more resilient infrastructure for the benefit of customers. The event, held at Avangrid Headquarters in Orange, brought together a diverse group of stakeholders committed to improving infrastructure reliability and emergency preparedness across Connecticut.

The Summit provided a collaborative forum for participants to share best practices, strengthen partnerships, and explore innovative solutions to address increasing challenges posed by severe weather events and evolving energy demands.

"Resiliency is at the core of how we serve our customers and communities," said Frank Reynolds, President and CEO of UI, CNG, and SCG. "We were proud to welcome so many external stakeholders to discuss these essential issues, including state legislators, town and city leaders, nonprofits, and other key groups we serve. We know the challenges we face, including affordability concerns, can only be solved with collaboration, since regional energy markets and public policy decisions influence the full cost of electricity."

At the Resiliency Summit, panelists and attendees participated in a series of discussions, including:

  • Advancing energy infrastructure and transmission projects to strengthen regional reliability and preparedness
  • Perspectives from key customers and institutions on what resiliency means in practice and how it supports operations and communities
  • The relationship between economic development, workforce, and energy affordability, and its impact on long-term resilience

"Through collaboration with state and municipal leaders and organizations, plus continued investment in our infrastructure, we are building an energy system that is better prepared to withstand future challenges while supporting more affordable, reliable service for our customers," Reynolds continued.

Participants also had the opportunity to exchange ideas with peers and experts, fostering dialogue on practical approaches to improving coordination during emergencies and advancing long-term resiliency planning. The Summit brought together representatives from organizations including the Connecticut Beardsley Zoo, Southern Connecticut State University, Tweed New Haven Airport, Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce, Bridgeport Regional Business Council, and Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce, among others.

The event underscored the company's commitment to working closely with partners across sectors to ensure communities are better equipped to respond to and recover from disruptions. By bringing together key stakeholders, the Resiliency Summit highlighted the importance of proactive planning, shared knowledge, and coordinated action in building a more resilient energy future.
