On June 25, the Chinese Embassy in Iceland hosted a briefing on Dialogue among Civilizations. Ambassador He Rulong delivered a keynote speech. Representatives from the Icelandic Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the Icelandic-Chinese Cultural Society (KÍM), the Icelandic-Chinese Trade Council (ÍKV) the business community, the academic circles, as well as mainstream media including Morgunblaðið and Viðskiptablaðið participated in the event.
A video message delivered by H.E. Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, for the event to celebrate the International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations was played at the event. Ambassador He introduced the Global Civilization Initiative and the Global Governance Initiative, the outcomes of the China-U.S. Summit, and the meaning of "a constructive relationship of strategic stability". He emphasized that countries around the world-whether major powers or small and medium-sized states-should strengthen dialogue among civilizations, and called on Iceland to remain confident and committed to developing relations with China, and generate new achievements in dialogue and mutual emulation between the two countries. Ambassador He also gave an interview on bilateral relations and the direct flight between China and Iceland.
Participants commended China's positive contributions to promoting exchanges and mutual emulation among civilizations and to advancing the reform and improvement of the global governance system. They expressed the expectation that the direct flight between China and Iceland would further enhance bilateral economic cooperation and trade as well as people-to-people and cultural exchanges.
