Campus News Wins National Award for Best All-Around Television News Magazine
Minnesota State Moorhead's student-produced television program, Campus News, has been named the Best All-Around Television News Magazine by the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) in the organization's prestigious Mark of Excellence Awards. Campus News earned top honors among student news programs from universities across the country.
Earlier this year, Campus News took first place in the Television News Magazine category in the Society of Professional Journalists Region 6 Awards. That includes the states of Minnesota, North and South Dakota, and Wisconsin. SPJ presents the Mark of Excellence Awards annually to honor the best in student journalism. Judges select winners based on journalistic quality, reporting, storytelling, production values and overall excellence. Entries are first judged at the regional level, with first-place regional winners advancing to the national competition.
Other national finalists in the Best All-Around Television News Magazine category included entries from Arizona State University, Penn State University, and Texas State University.
"Winning a national SPJ Mark of Excellence Award against schools that are many times larger than MSUM is a tremendous achievement for our students," said Aaron Quanbeck, program director for Campus News. "Their dedication, creativity and commitment to journalistic excellence made this recognition possible."
Campus News was named a national SPJ Finalist in 2009 and 2016. This year's national award for the Best All-Around Television News Magazine marks the highest achievement in the history of the program, which goes back to the early 1980s.
