New Community Input Sessions: Extreme Heat and Community Resilience Grant Program Aliso Canyon Recovery Account

The Governor's Office of Land Use and Climate Innovation (LCI), through the State Planning and Policy Development (SPPD), is investing $14 million received through the Aliso Canyon gas leak settlement and wants your input on how to use the funds.

In 2015, the Aliso Canyon gas leak released more than 100,000 tons of methane into the San Fernando Valley from a natural gas storage facility in Porter Ranch. As part of a resulting settlement with SoCalGas, California received $71 million and is dedicating $14 million to the Extreme Heat and Community Resilience Grant Program (EHCRP) (Assembly Bill 157, Chapter 994).

The funds will help the "Aliso Canyon Disaster Area" in the City of Los Angeles communities of Porter Ranch, Granada Hills, Northridge, Chatsworth, North Hills, Canoga Park, Reseda, Winnetka, West Hills, Van Nuys, and Lake Balboa recover and build long-term climate resilience.

LCI will host a series of community input sessions throughout winter and spring 2026 to determine how best to administer funds. Two initial sessions will be held in January 2026, and the feedback gathered will help shape subsequent listening sessions and identify community needs.

The schedule and registrations for the two sessions are as follows:

Audience: Local and regional government staff, Tribal members, community-based organizations, businesses, and residents who were impacted by the Aliso Canyon disaster or who live or work in the communities of Porter Ranch, Granada Hills, Northridge, Chatsworth, North Hills, Canoga Park, Reseda, Winnetka, West Hills, Van Nuys, and Lake Balboa.
