ROSELAND, N.J. - Amid National Preparedness Month, the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJCPA) has published its updated Disaster Recovery Guide for New Jersey individuals and businesses. The free guide provides a reminder of what steps are necessary to reconstruct records lost in a natural disaster, how to properly document damage for tax purposes and how to ward off fraud.
The NJCPA's Disaster Recovery Guide is published annually with a list of updated emergency state and federal contacts throughout New Jersey and the Metropolitan area. It provides contacts for insurance coverage for automobiles and homes as well as replacement information for lost bank cards and marriage certificates. The guide also explains the necessary steps to avoid disaster recovery scams and outlines how to amend IRS tax returns to help cover one's losses.
"With so many challenges for taxpayers today, references like these provide useful information on so many fronts. Individuals as well as businesses should keep it handy and also contact their CPAs for guidance," said Aiysha (AJ) Johnson, MA, IOM, CEO and executive director at the NJCPA.
The Disaster Recovery Guide is available online at njcpa.org/recovery or by contacting the NJCPA at 973-226-4494 or [email protected].
