On February 27, Ambassador Yu Dunhai met with Hon. Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Accounts.
Ambassador Yu stated that this year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Nigeria. Over the past 55 years, our two countries have stood together and forged ahead hand in hand. Especially since last year, under the strategic guidance of the leaders of our two countries, the China-Nigeria Comprehensive Strategic Partnership has entered a fast track. On February 14, President Xi Jinping solemnly announced in his congratulatory message to the 39th African Union Summit that China will implement a zero-tariff initiative covering all tariff lines for 53 African countries having diplomatic ties with China starting from May 1, 2026. This is a major measure taken by China to support Africa's modernization drive. China stands ready to work with Nigeria to ensure the early and effective implementation of this zero-tariff initiative, leverage China's vast market to provide new impetus and opportunities for Nigeria, and deliver the benefits of development to the peoples of both countries.
Senator Aliyu thanked China for its support and assistance to Nigeria's economic and social development, and stated that Nigeria would like to continue deepening cooperation with China and elevate Nigeria-China relations to new heights.
