Bullhead City, Ariz. - The Bureau of Reclamation is thrilled to announce the success of the National Public Lands Day at Davis Dam on Saturday, September 27, 2025. This event served as an important opportunity to celebrate the significance of our public lands and the vital role that Davis Dam plays in our community. The event brought together community members, volunteers, and local partners who participated in exclusive guided tours of the Davis Dam power plant. Attendees had the unique opportunity to explore the inner workings of the facility, view historical photos, and engage with Department of the Interior and Reclamation employees, who provided insightful tours into the dam's engineering and historical significance.
"Today's event was a huge success," said Deputy Regional Director Christi Davis-Kernan. "We are so proud of the coordination and outreach between the Department and Reclamation to make this event happen, as well as our Clark County and Mohave County community partners who supported the event, we could not have done it without everyone coming together. While we conduct regular tours at Hoover Dam 363 days a year, facilitating access to Davis Dam for this one-time event, which is normally closed to the public, was a monumental task to ensure safety, security and an enriching educational experience for all. I'm very proud of the work we do here and am honored to be a part of such a great team of people working for the Department and Reclamation."
Participants toured the generator gallery, turbine gallery, and tailrace, gaining insights into the dam's crucial role in supplying water and power to the Southwest region. This event effectively showcased the rich history of Davis Dam and its importance in our community.
Lower Colorado Dams Office Area Manager, Len Schilling, said "We take great pride in Davis Dam and its power plant and their vital roles in managing water and providing power in the Southwest. The staff at Davis Dam are very dedicated and work hard to keep the dam and plant in top shape and we were excited to show how Davis Dam supports the Southwest and how well we take care of it. I am honored to be part of this one-day event on Public Lands Day."
The Bureau of Reclamation would like to express its gratitude to everyone who participated and contributed to this memorable event. The collaboration with Mohave County and Clark County engaged the community in meaningful discussions about the ongoing value of this valuable resource. It is also notable that the event was held near a significant historical milestone in for the United States of America, the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence which is July 4, 2026. "It is my heartfelt hope that the community recognizes the commitment and expertise of the individuals who operate and maintain Davis Dam," stated Davis Dam Acting Manager Steven Russ. "As the manager of the dam, I can attest to the significant preparation and planning that went into opening our doors to the public for this one-day event. Facility safety is paramount in everything we do."
