During his visit to Morocco to participate at the 58th Fifty-eighth session of the Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, the Chairperson of the AU Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf visited the Port of Tangier, where he was received by Mr. Mehdi Tazi-Riffi, the CEO of Tanger Med Port Complex, the leading port in the mediterranean and Africa & other senior management of the Port.
The visit to the port aimed to appreciate Morocco's advanced expertise in infrastructure development, particularly in port management. "As Africa's top-ranked port and 17th globally, Tangier stands as a model of efficiency, innovation, & strategic vision", said the Chairperson.
H.E. Mr Youssouf noted that such success offers valuable lessons for the continent, especially as Africa advances the AfCFTA and seeks to boost intra-African trade. Strengthening port infrastructure is key to reducing trade costs, improving connectivity, and accelerating regional integration.
He emphasized the importance of knowledge-sharing and peer learning, underscoring that Morocco's experience can support other African countries in developing modern, competitive ports.
On his part, Mr. Mehdi Tazi-Riffi, the CEO of the Port of Tangier assured the Chairperson that Morocco is committed to promoting collaboration & investment to scale up infrastructure development across Africa.
