The Day of German Unity was celebrated in Colombo this evening (30 September) at the Hilton Hotel, Colombo organized by the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Sri Lanka. The event marked the 34th anniversary of German reunification, symbolizing unity and progress.
Professor Anil Jayantha, Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment, attended the event as the Chief Guest.
Defence Secretary, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd) also joined the celebration as a distinguished guest.
The event was graced by a wide range of attendees, including former presidents, opposition leader, former ministers, Members of Parliament, foreign envoys, senior government officials, and staff members of the German Embassy in Colombo, reflecting the strong and respectful ties between Sri Lanka and Germany.
In his welcome address, H.E. Dr. Felix Neumann, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, warmly welcomed the Chief Guest and all distinguished invitees. He highlighted the seven decades of diplomatic relations between the two countries and emphasized the long-standing bilateral partnership based on mutual respect, cooperation and shared values.
The event also served as a platform to reaffirm the enduring and evolving relationship between Sri Lanka and Germany.
