Europe Day at Villa Europa!

Today 9 May, Ambassador Martin Selmayr celebrated Europe Day at Villa Europa in Rome, with the many diplomats from the diplomatic corps to the Holy See, the Sovereign Order of Malta, the UN in Rome, FAO, WFP, IFAD and the Republic of San Marino.

We recalled the work of Robert Schuman who inspires us until today in our work for peace, transborder cooperation and solidarity between nations and continents. We underlined our unwavering solidarity with Ukraine. The state of the world is challenging. But the European Union and its friends continue to work for the rule of law, multilateralism, free and fair trade and an effective UN system.

Thanks a lot to IFAD President Alvaro Lario, WFP Executive Board President Carla Barroso Carneiro, FAO Maurizio Martina, ICCROM DG Aruna Gujral, Vice-President of the European Parliament, Antonella Sberna and Executive Vice-President for Cohesion and Reforms, Raffaele Fitto, for having encouraged us today to believe in Europe, in the rules-based international system and in the work for global public goods, notably food security.

The Europe Day event at Villa Europa enjoyed the singing of the Vivona Choir, the live music of the Quartetto Band and the art work of Raul Orvieto.
