The FDNY honored the four Department leaders who made the Supreme Sacrifice on September 11, 2001, when responding from headquarters to Manhattan Box 5-5-8087 World Trade Center.
On Thursday, September 11, 2025, Fire Commissioner Robert S. Tucker welcomed the families of Chief of Department Peter J. Ganci Jr., First Deputy Commissioner William M. Feehan, Assistant Chief Gerard A. Barbara and Assistant Chief Donald J. Burns as they attended the FDNY Headquarters September 11th Memorial Service on the 24th anniversary of the 2001 attacks.
"I know what these men mean to this Department, and I can only imagine what they mean to all of you," FDNY Commissioner Tucker said at Thursday's ceremony. "Four extraordinary leaders. Their reputations continue to echo in this building and throughout the Department. Their leadership, their courage, their integrity continues to shape the FDNY even now, 24 years later. They led through their character. They were wise, they were compassionate, and they were really steady under pressure. Their legacies live on in the way we serve and the way we promise to never forget."
