Update: Overnight Lane and Ramp Closures for Six Nights at Appian Way Overcrossing in Pinole, Near I-80 in Contra Costa County

Contra Costa County - Caltrans has updated its construction schedule for the Appian Way overcrossings above Interstate 80 (I-80) in Pinole, related to PG&E gas line deactivation. The work was initially planned for six nights, and from Sunday, July 26, 2026, through August 1, 2026, was delayed due to coordination challenges. The new schedule is now Monday July 27, 2026, through Sunday August 2, 2026, at 10 A.M, it will include overnight closures affecting local traffic as well as planned lane and ramp closures between Tara Hills Drive and Fitzgerald Drive. Southbound Appian Way Overcrossing Overnight Closure Details

Traffic Impact:

  • Full closure of WB I-80 on ramp from SB-Appian Way OC.
  • One lane closed on SB Appian Way overcrossing near I-80.
  • Traffic changes between the intersections of Fitzgerald Drive and Tara Hills Drive.

Schedule:

  • Sunday July 26 at 5PM- Monday July 27 open at 5AM (Sunday night) Delayed
  • Mon July 27 start closure at 7PM - Tues July 28 open at 5AM
  • Tues July 28 start closure at 7PM - Wed July 29 open at 5AM
  • Wed July 29 start closure at 7PM - Thurs July 30 open at 5AM
  • Thurs July 30 start closure at 7PM - Fri July 31 open at 5AM
  • Fri July 31 start closure at 7PM - Sat Aug 1 open at 10AM (Friday night to Saturday morning.)
  • Sat August 1st starts closure at 5 PM- Sun August 2 open at 10 AM
    *Please note (No Weekend Closures between 10AM and 5 PM)

Changeable Message Signs (CMS) will alert drivers to be aware of these closures. Motorists should expect minor delays, reduce speed, and plan extra travel time.
