Former UCLA standout Walt Hazzard has been selected for induction into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2026.
A national champion and Olympic gold medal winner, Hazzard served UCLA's basketball program as both a player and head coach. Standing at 6-foot-2, the elite point guard was a three-year starter on UCLA's varsity squad from 1962-64. He twice secured All-America honors (1963, 1964) under head coach John Wooden.
As a senior co-captain in 1963-64, Hazzard helped lead UCLA to its first-ever NCAA men's basketball title and an undefeated season (30-0 record). Hazzard, who died in November 2011, served as UCLA's head coach for four seasons - from 1984-85 through 1987-88. Hazzard becomes the second former UCLA standout in the past three years to earn induction into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame, located in Kansas City, Missouri.
This year's Hall of Fame class will be formally enshrined during the National College Basketball Hall of Fame Induction Celebration presented by UMB Private Wealth Management on Oct. 22, at the College Basketball Experience in Kansas City. The collegiate Hall of Fame began in 2006 with a historic group of honorees, featuring former UCLA head coach John Wooden, Dean Smith, Oscar Robertson and Bill Russell.
