Pair of closures to accommodate roadway improvements in South Winnipeg

Winnipeg, MB - Two south Winnipeg thoroughfares are getting facelifts over the coming weeks.

Abinojii Mikanah - September 21 to October 9

We are resurfacing the intersection of Abinojii Mikanah and River Road.

From September 21 at 7 a.m. to October 9 at 6 p.m.:

  • Abinojii Mikanah will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Pembina Highway and St. Mary's Road
    • The sidewalk on the south side of Abinojii Mikanah will be closed
    • There will be no left turns onto River Road
    • There will be shorter-term closures of the eastbound right turn onto River Road
  • River Road will be closed in both directions at the Abinojii Mikanah intersection
    • Traffic in both directions will be required to turn right
    • There will be no left turns
    • The sidewalk on the east side of River Road will be closed

Dakota / Dunkirk / St. Mary's intersection - September 19

We are closing this intersection to accommodate paving work.

The closure will be in place from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, September 19.

During the closure:

  • There will be no through traffic on Dakota-Dunkirk across St. Mary's Road
  • Vehicles travelling east on Dunkirk Drive will need to turn right onto southbound St. Mary's Road
  • Vehicles travelling west on Dakota Street must turn right onto northbound St. Mary's Road
  • There will be no left turns from southbound St. Mary's Road onto eastbound Dakota Street
  • There will be no left turns from northbound St. Mary's Road onto westbound Dunkirk Drive
  • Existing single lane closures on southbound St Mary's Road will remain in place.

Transit will be rerouted during the closure.

For all closures, drivers should plan ahead, use alternate routes, and expect delays.
