Dan Barrios Announces Council Resignation

Richardson City Council Member Dan Barrios announced during tonight's City Council meeting that he is resigning from the Richardson City Council.

Under applicable state law, once a written resignation is submitted, a vacancy occurs on the date the resignation is accepted by the appropriate authority, Richardson City Council, or on the eighth day after the date it is received, whichever occurs first.

City Manager Don Magner will place an item on next week's City Council agenda for the Council to discuss next steps related to the vacancy. That discussion is expected to include the process, timing and options available under applicable law and City procedures.

No action regarding the vacancy process is being taken as part of tonight's announcement. Additional information will be provided after the City Council discusses the matter at next week's meeting.

Barrios was elected in May 2023 to represent City Council Place 3. Video of Barrios' resignation announcement will be available to view on the City's CITV website located at www.cor.net/CITV. City Council meeting videos are available to view on-demand under the City Council tab. Videos are usually posted within 24 hours of the conclusion of the meeting.
