ACOG Inaugurates Camille A. Clare MD, MPH, CPE, FACOG, as 77th President at 2026 Annual Clinical & Scientific Meeting

Washington, D.C.-Today Camille A. Clare, MD, MPH, CPE, FACOG, of Bronxville, New York, became the 77th president of the American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists (ACOG). Dr. Clare, a longtime and decorated ACOG leader, well-regarded academic, and practicing ob-gyn, is ACOG's first Black woman president.

Dr. Clare is a board-certified ob-gyn and a professor of obstetrics and gynecology and women's health at her alma mater, Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She most recently served as vice chair of faculty mentorship and community engagement and outreach at Montefiore Medical Center.

In her inaugural address, delivered at the organization's Annual Clinical & Scientific Meeting, during which ACOG celebrated its 75th anniversary, Dr. Clare reflected on her position, noting that "Legacy is something each of us creates every day. It is the impact we have on our patients, the knowledge we share with our learners, the science we advance, and the voices we raise. Legacy is what happens when one person's commitment creates opportunity for others. … As the first Black woman president of ACOG, I am deeply aware of the moments, mentors, and support that carried me to where I am today, and of what this moment represents for those who are watching and wondering whether they too can lead."

Dr. Clare emphasized the ability of individual clinicians to create their own legacies through leadership and encouraged young physicians to participate, volunteer, and be engaged. Dr. Clare also focused on how ob-gyns can practice leadership every day: "Leadership means listening. Leadership means advocating. Leadership means ensuring that the science we advance reaches every patient and every community. … Leadership is never practiced in the abstract: It is shaped by who we are, where we have come from, and the responsibility we inherit."

Dr. Clare also underscored the importance of physician leadership in confronting the challenges facing the ob-gyn field. She added that she intended to champion access to care during her time as ACOG president, saying, "The future of obstetrics and gynecology must include every community, every county, and every patient."

Dr. Clare received her medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, New York, and completed her ob-gyn residency at the State University of New York at Buffalo. She obtained a master of public health degree in health policy and management at New York Medical College.

Dr. Clare served as chair and tenured professor at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Downstate Health Sciences University College of Medicine from 2021 to 2025 and professor of health policy and management of Downstate Health Sciences University School of Public Health. She served as associate dean of diversity and inclusion at New York Medical College from 2016 to 2020. Dr. Clare has received numerous awards for teaching medical students and residents. She was recognized as an ACOG Mentor of the Year in 2017 and received the Distinguished Service Award on behalf of ACOG District II in 2021.

She has also served the global community by providing gynecologic care to patients in Jamaica as a member of the Organization for International Development, which is particularly important to her because her parents immigrated to the United States from Jamaica for their educational pursuits. Dr. Clare is an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc, Westchester Alumnae Chapter, and has a lifetime commitment to community service, volunteerism, and mentorship.
