South Sudan concludes multistakeholder dialogue on strengthening access to higher education for displaced populations

The dialogue brought together senior government officials, public and private universities, and development and humanitarian partners to address barriers to higher education for refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs) and returnees. Over the two days, participants examined existing policies and practices related to recognition, admission and certification, identified good practices and key challenges, and agreed on practical, government-led solutions to strengthen inclusive access to higher education.

South Sudan continues to face one of the world's most complex humanitarian, development and displacement contexts, with an estimated four million people affected by displacement. These dynamics place significant pressure on national systems, including education. While basic education often receives the greatest attention, higher education remains overlooked, despite its critical role in building human capital, strengthening institutions, and supporting long-term sustainable development.
