WXUT's Newest Show Highlights Local Research

The University of Toledo's 88.3 WXUT recently launched a new weekly program that focuses on research at the University and in the area.

The Rocket Journal, hosted by Lemuel Inkoom, a senior undergraduate pharmaceutical sciences student at UToledo, highlights research - from medical innovations to mental health awareness - conducted by UToledo students and faculty as well as students in area high schools.

The show airs live Fridays from 6 to 8 p.m. and will repeat Sundays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

"Through The Rocket Journal, I want to help open people's eyes to what is possible right here in our own community," Inkoom said. "You do not have to go anywhere else; you can do it in Toledo.

"At the end of the day, I hope hearing these stories doesn't just inform people, but inspires them to step into their own potential."

Shawn Monterio, a bioengineering senior who was recently featured on the show, said the opportunity to discuss his research in a nonacademic setting was a welcome change.

"As a student, research recognition is often limited to formal conferences or academic presentations, so having a sit-down, conversational space to discuss my process and journey was refreshing," Monterio said.

"It was a privilege to pull back the curtain on the day-to-day responsibilities and the personal path that led me to this research, and I cannot wait to see the results of The Rocket Journal's expanding impact."
