A technology that enables robots to perform flexible, complex movements by having AI analyze and interpret data from sensors, cameras and external systems so robots can act autonomously
Physical AI refers to technology where AI analyzes and makes decisions based on information obtained from a robot's sensors and cameras, and external systems. This enables a robot to flexibly carry out complex movements that correspond to AI analysis.
A key characteristic of Physical AI is its ability not only to recognize images and speech, but to also conduct physical actions and control the amount of force applied. By combining data from a wide range of learned tasks-combined with real-time information collected through sensors and other inputs-Physical AI can perceive and analyze complex environments and determine an optimal course of action autonomously. In this way, AI-based intelligence is integrated with a physical body that can react to the situation at hand. For this reason, Physical AI is attracting increased attention as a core technology that enables AI to operate in the real world.
As it becomes more widespread, Physical AI is expected to help address labor shortages, improve safety, and significantly boost productivity in fields such as manufacturing, logistics, nursing care, healthcare and transportation. That said, achieving broad social adoption will require the establishment of clear rules and frameworks, including clarifying responsibility in the case of accidents, as well as developing ethical guidelines and safety standards.
