Topeka, Kan. - The family of Brett Ballard, head coach of the Washburn University men's basketball program, is providing an update on his condition and expressing gratitude for the community's care and support. Coach Ballard suffered serious injuries in a car accident on Tuesday evening.
The Ballard Family shared the following statement:
"The Ballard family would like to extend our gratitude to the first responders and medical staff at Stormont Vail for caring for Brett. We sincerely appreciate the outpouring of love and support from friends, family, and the community. Your prayers are felt and are making a difference.
After suffering a medical incident, Brett is receiving the care he needs and is expected to make a full recovery.
We are truly grateful for all the support shown to our family."
Washburn University President JuliAnn Mazachek sent the update to the campus community on Saturday evening, calling it uplifting.
"The outpouring of love and encouragement for Coach and his family has been deeply meaningful," Mazachek said. "Please continue to keep them in your thoughts as Brett continues on the road to recovery."
