NASSAU, The Bahamas - In a symbolic display of national unity, youth empowerment and environmental stewardship, His Majesty King Charles III joined 16 young Bahamians representing various islands of The Bahamas for the ceremonial planting of a Lignum Vitae, the country's national tree, at Government House on Mount Fitzwilliam on Wednesday, 28 October 2026.

Each student brought soil from his or her respective island, symbolically bringing together the roots of our archipelagic nation in one place, united by a shared responsibility to protect and preserve The Bahamas for future generations.

The occasion carried particular significance during National Youth Month, reinforcing the message delivered by His Majesty at the Future Bahamas Youth Rally at Clifford Park on Tuesday, 27 October, where he encouraged young people to embrace their responsibility as custodians of the environment.

More than five decades after representing Queen Elizabeth II at The Bahamas' Independence celebrations in 1973, King Charles III returned as the nation's Head of State, this time helping to establish a living symbol of unity, resilience and hope.

At another stop, Bonefish Pond National Park, His Majesty planted silver buttonwood mangrove, further highlighting the importance of environmental conservation, the protection of mangrove ecosystems and the critical role of natural habitats in strengthening coastal resilience.

The Royal visit concludes on Thursday, October 29, 2026.
