Every Pennsylvania state-owned university has its own governing board, a Council of Trustees comprised of 11 members who are nominated and appointed by the governor. Student trustees are nominated, approved by the chancellor and appointed by the governor. Emma Killmeyer, a biochemistry major, has been appointed as Millersville University's student trustee. In this role, she is a voting member of the Council and represents the student body.
"As a Millersville student, I have held many on-campus jobs, served as an officer of several clubs and been engaged in campus activities," says Killmeyer. "Through these experiences, I have seen the ways that Millersville University can improve to better meet student needs. As student trustee, I will continue advocating for students at the university-wide level and build upon the connections and perspective that I have developed through the Student Government Association."
Killmeyer hopes to make meaningful changes that are informed directly by student concerns. "I will deepen my understanding of the needs of all MU students through conversations and active engagement across campus," she says. "I also hope to encourage other students to use their voices and get involved in improving our campus community."
Killmeyer is most excited to build purposeful relationships across campus. "It is these connections that foster meaningful advocacy work," she says. "Through collaborations and conversations with fellow students and faculty, we can be intentional about making long-lasting improvements to strengthen the student experience at Millersville University."
Through her term as student trustee, Killmeyer anticipates further developing her professional, interpersonal and communication skills. "Serving as a student trustee is truly the highlight of my college experience," Killmeyer says. "I am honored to continue advocating for students. This opportunity will help bridge the gap between the student experience and the role of administrators."
