Women in Auto Care Receives Congressional Recognition for Car Care Day Event in Reno

RENO, Nev. - April 29, 2026 - Women in Auto Care, a community of the Auto Care Association, cosponsored the fourth

annual Car Care Day at The Discovery science museum in Reno, Nevada, on March 28, 2026, alongside AAA and the Reno NAPA Auto Care Business Development Group. This community-focused event opened The Discovery to the public with free admission for all ages, welcoming families, students and automotive enthusiasts from across the region. Car Care Day is designed to highlight automotive technology as a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) career pathway, with a special focus on educating parents and children about the vital role automotive technicians play in today's economy.

Hands-on Car Repair STEM Activities
The Car Care Day event spotlighted The Discovery's Car Repair Center, the museum's second most-visited exhibit, originally installed in 2019 by the Reno NAPA Auto Care Business Development Group to promote automotive technicians as a STEM profession.

Throughout the day, guests engaged in a wide range of hands-on, interactive activities, including:

  • Torque Wrench Test;

  • Warning Light Matching Game;

  • Find That Ratchet challenge;

  • Super Service Center;

  • Build a Race Car station;

  • Do-It-Yourself Crash Testing;

  • Auto Paint Shop;

  • Car Part Petting Zoo; and a

  • Car Care Photo Booth.

A popular outdoor car show filled the museum parking lot, featuring vehicles from the Wicked Wayz CC Lowriders Club, a AAA wrecker and mobile repair truck, the iconic Ghostbusters wagon from the National Automobile Museum, a Waste Management truck and local race cars.

Interactive Exhibits, Car Shows and Celebrity Signings
In addition to interactive exhibits, attendees had the opportunity to meet motorsports legends and rising stars. NHRA Funny Car Driver and Team Owner Ron Capps and Top Fuel rising star Maddi Gordon, both of Ron Capps Racing, were on site signing autographs and engaging with fans.

"The first year we came to this event, there were so many kids at The Discovery," said Ron Capps, NHRA funny car driver, team owner, Ron Capps Racing. "It was my first time there, and I immediately realized how incredible the place is-especially for kids. "What means the most to me is seeing the local NAPA Auto Care centers and NAPA Auto Parts owners come together to offer families a day at The Discovery free of charge. Having so many race fans make the trip to meet Maddi and me just makes it an even better day for all of us."

The event also featured the Wicked Wayz Show N Shine, showcasing cars and bikes from Reno's Wicked Wayz Car Club, whose mission is to uplift others by preserving the art and culture of lowriders.

"This event directly supports our mission to close the technician gap through education, awareness and scholarships," said Missy Stephens, manager, community engagement, Auto Care Association. "By introducing families to automotive technology in a fun, hands-on environment, Car Care Day helps reframe the technician role as a high-skill STEM career. Women in Auto Care is proud to support initiatives like this that inspire the next generation and ensure a strong, diverse future for our industry."

Special Congressional Recognition
In recognition of the event's impact on education and workforce development, Women in Auto Care, along with other

event sponsors, received a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition from Senator Jacky Rosen's (D-NV) office honoring the collaborative effort to promote automotive careers and STEM education within the community.

Car Care Day at The Discovery continues to serve as a powerful example of how automotive aftermarket industry partnerships can educate, inspire and connect communities while elevating automotive technicians as essential STEM professionals.
