EUROCONTROL's iNM (integrated Network Management) programme - which aims to transform digitally our operational systems - has just successfully delivered Wave 2.2, a new programme milestone that introduces an upgraded version of EVITA, our crisis management tool, and extends access to EUROCONTROL's NM User Interface (NMUI) Airport (TWR) application to tower supervisors and air traffic controllers (ATCOs).

The new version of EVITA comes with a modern interface for improved user experience, and integrates ash concentration data from the European Volcanic Ash Advisory Centres in London and Toulouse; the extension of NMUI Airport (TWR) to tower supervisors and ATCOs gives them early access for familiarisation purposes. NMUI Airport (TWR)'s single interface will allow operational staff at towers to send data to NM and provide them with real-time flight data to enhance situational awareness. The release follows on from last month's access for aircraft operators within iNM's Wave 2.1 release.

New EVITA Tool
The updated EVITA tool supports the new, advanced volcanic ash advisory concept Quantitative Volcanic Ash (QVA) information, which is designed to provide precise, measurable ash concentration data. Fully compliant with SWIM - the framework of standards to enable seamless, interoperable exchange of ATM information among qualified stakeholders - the new EVITA tool is integrated into iNM's Digital Platform, and complies with the EU's Common Project One (CP1) regulation, which as part of the SESAR (Single European Sky ATM Research) deployment framework, sets out mandatory Air Traffic Management (ATM) functionalities that must be implemented across Europe to modernise and harmonise air traffic systems by the end of 2025. EVITA will support the safety risk assessment (SRA) process, once updated for QVA, for airspace users to determine whether to fly or not, or reroute around a crisis area - a process that is applicable across all EUROCONTROL Member States.

EUROCONTROL NMUI Airport (TWR) application
With this release EUROCONTROL's NMUI Airport (TWR) application delivers an optimised design that offers a more efficient, intuitive, and visually appealing user interface. From the very beginning it has been developed in close coordination with users to simplify essential tasks. The application will allow towers to send crucial operational data to NM, such as current and planned runway configurations, perform flight-related actions and maintain an overview on the network situation. Early adopters now have the possibility to test the initial product and provide their feedback to EUROCONTROL.

Next steps
NMUI Airport will go live in iNM Wave 2.3 in April 2026, and will progressively replace the legacy Collaboration Human Machine Interface for Towers (CITO) application (CITO will continue to be used to ensure continuity and allow air navigation service providers enough time for a smooth transition to NMUI, before CITO's eventual decommissioning in 2028). Further information on NMUI Airport (TWR) product onboarding, transition and training will become available in the coming weeks.

The iNM Programme
The iNM programme aims to deliver full digitalisation of the EUROCONTROL Network Manager's core legacy systems, which have successfully ensured flow and network management for over 25 years. iNM is built around a secure, data-driven, cloud-first platform for future network evolution, in line with the Agency's Trajectory 2030 strategy, and envisages the renewal of all the NM's main operational systems through a series of technical releases. Waves 2.3-2.6 will complete the programme by the end of 2026.
